EDCO 2013; (katanya) Bagaikan Air yang Mengguyur Api!

 

Assalammu’alaikum, Readers. Now i’m going to tell you about a competition i joined. Ok i’m sorry before to write in English since the competition is about English, yeah! It’s about English Debating Competition 2013 held by English Department of Jakarta State University. Want to know it more? Let’s start!

 

Intro      :

When i was staying in BEMJ Matematika’s basecamp, two girls visited there. They gave me brown envelopes and a poster which are information about English Debating Competition (EDCO) and registration forms. I read it and put it into locker of my department, Scientific and Profession Department. I am not a very confident person in speaking  to the public  but suddenly i realized that it was my big opportunity ! Yes, i have to try it!

Soonly, i make a message to recruit the debate participant from Mathematics and spread it widely to all student of Mathematics. I ask some people to help me in asking other participants. We have to send two teams from Mathematics. It was 7 days left before the late registration. All praise to Allah, we’ve got two teams, three person each team. First team is me, Kak Putri and Sari while the second one is Hengky, Indra and Putra. They collected the pas photo and CV to me. It as so hectic for me to finish the registration since i have to go to campus A. Finally we all have been registered.

Then, as coordinator of Mathematics in EDCO, i think we have to get an exercise of debating. So i asked some of seniors to share with us about debating. It was on Thursday afternoon we share together with Kak Inez, Kak Rayvin and Kak Eka. So much we got from them.

On April 27th, there was a technical meeting. Since Kak Putri and I had a course, so it was only Sari who attended the TM. On afternoon Friday, one day before the competition was, our second team decided to step down. Actually there’s a same feeling inside me but i think more and finally decided not to step down. We are the only team, so we had to struggle! Yeah!

Saturday, April 28th 2013

The competition would be attended in campus A UNJ Rawamangun at 8 pm. I arrived there about 7 pm. Thirty minutes then, Sari was coming. Ok, so Kak Putri left. I try to called them many times but no asnwer at all. Suddenly, she told us that she got up lately. You know what time was that? 7.45 A.M! It means that only 15 minutes left. The committee said that it as possible the team disculified if the members were not complete. Oh-my-god!

But All Praise to Allah, the committe gave us an opportunity. Firstly, we have been shared our job as the government, the second one and the closing. But now it was only me and Sari.

We entered the room. Our first opposite team is English A. Soooo nervous yeah. But i try to calm my self down. It was about three minutes before the moderator opened the debate, Kak Putri came! Alhamdulillaah!

For short, the first roun finished. Yeah, we lose but it is okay. There are still one chance. Bismillah.

In second round, our opposite team is Tata Boga 2. One of them made me so scraed because her face, uh, like this, i don want to remember that. Skip.

The participants are asked to comeback to the auditorium. The points of each team is shown. My team is in the best 25 teams. Okay, for the second time, we lose. We think that there is no chance for us. But you know what? We still got the third round, the last round. And you know what who is our last opposite team?

MANAGEMENT 1. I know they are the first ranking!

“Let’s we go home.” Kak Putri kidded. “Let’s, let’s!”

“No, Kak, we have to struggle! We can!” i said cheerfully.

We entered the room. After discussing, the debate started. Okay, i’m very scared (for the second time) of Kak Rizki. He was soooo, what we called it? Cheerfully? No, oh yes something like that.

For short, you know what? The adjudicater said WE ARE THE WINNER! Masya Allah.. Allahuakbar!

Well, athough we could not enter the 6 best team but we are proud. Alhamdulillah.

“Visya tuh lucu banget ya, Kak?” Sari said suddenly, when we went to mosque.

“Hah? Kenapa?” i asked.

“Di saat kita berlima lagi menggebu-gebu berdebat, tiba-tiba pas giliran Visya ngomong tuh langsung diam gitu semua. Visya tuh bagaikan air yang menyiram api. Adem banget!”

“Eh iya, gue baru nyadar. BetuL kata lo, Sar!” Kak Putri added.

O-M-G. I know, i know, it was my first time. For the first time?

Yes, i never join any debating competition before because i prefer to write than debate. But i have been tried it, whatever the result was. I am proud. Thank You, ALLAH :’)
